
Specially Designed Instruction
Specially Designed Academic Instruction defined as follows:
Adapting, as appropriate to the needs of the child with a disability, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to ensure access of the child to the general curriculum, so that he or she can meet the educational standards within the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children” This definition was written to be in compliance with legal requirement 34 C.F.R. section 300.39(b)(3), which does not limit services to being provided in a special education classroom. “Specially designed instruction means adapting as appropriate to the needs of the eligible child under this part, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction-
(i) To address the unique needs of the child that result from the child’s disability; and educational standards within the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children.
(ii) To ensure access of the child to the general curriculum, so that the child can meet the educational standards within the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children.
