Definitions:
• Curricular Adaptations: Curricular Adaptations are changes permissible in educati
onal environments which allow
the student equal opportunity to obtain access, results, benefits, and levels of achievement. These
adaptations consist of both accommodations and modifications.
• Accommodations: Accommodations are changes in HOW a student accesses information and demonstrates
learning including presentation, performance or assessment.
Modifications: Modifications are changes in WHAT a student is expected to learn including presentation,
performance or assessment.

“Specially Designed Instruction" (SDI) means adapting as appropriate to the needs of the eligible child under this part of IDEA, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction.
(i) To address the unique needs of the child that result from the child’s disability; and educational standards within the
jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children.
(ii) To ensure access of the child to the general curriculum, so that the child can meet the educational standards within
the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children.
